Sri Lanka has a huge amount of waterfalls. There are nearly 400 waterfalls can be seen around the island. Some have natural pools to bath, while others are very dangerous and can only be seen from a distance. As an example St Clair's Waterfall is located close to the main road so you can easily get closed to it.
St Clair's Waterfall is one of the best travel destinations
in Nuwara Eliya District.This waterfall is popularly known as the “Little Niagara”
in Sri Lanka, among tourists.
This is the most miraculous waterfall is found among tea
gardens and that is the broadest waterfall in our country. This waterfall is
created by the Kotmale stream .And also, St Clair waterfall is situated over 26
Km far away from Nuwara Eliya town (500m far away from Hatton - Thalawakale
road ) and one must walk down among the tea bushes at a steep gradient to
succeed in it. Due to that a lots of people come to ascertain it a day.
This beautiful fall is 80 meters high and 50 meters wide
& consists of a pair of waterfalls. They are called "Kuda Ella "
& " Maha Ella ".
This fall is going to be suffering from the proposed Upper
Kotmale Hydro Power project, except for the advantage of the general public, a
limited quantity of water is going to be released to stop the entire
disappearance of this majestic waterfall.
